With the blessing of the Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl PAVLA, students of the Institute of Theology Koribut Kirill, Balakai David Konstantinovich and Kapiturko Maria Borisovna held a series of educational meetings with schoolchildren and students of secondary schools in the city of Lida, Grodno region, in the framework of celebrating the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian Bible.
The educational lyceum, which was held on the basis of the State Educational Institution of the Secondary School No. 16 in Lida, began its work on April 4, 2017.
Before the beginning of the event, theological students communicated with primary school students near the mobile exposition of the Bible Museum. Particular interest among schoolchildren was caused by facsimile editions of manuscript books.
The solemn part of the event dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the Belarusian Bible opened a concert of sacred music. The chants were performed by students of the Lida Music College. With a salutatory word, the rector of the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God "Vsezaritsa", Archpriest Sergiy Shaforost, addressed all present. After the solemn part, the student of the Institute of Theology Korbut Kirill Nikolayevich gave a lecture for senior high school students dedicated to the publication of the first Belarusian Bible, and then answered numerous questions. Many schoolchildren were not only interested in the topic of printing, but also asked questions relating to contemporary spiritual and theological problems.
At the end of the first day of the lecture hall, the students of the Institute of Theology visited the sights of the ancient Belarusian city of Lida, the temples and the historical center.
On Wednesday, April 5, the lecture began with a meeting with students from schools and colleges in Lida and Lida District. Lecture began with the performance of the symphony orchestra of the Lida Music College. The walls of the school № 16 sounded works of Russian and foreign classics. After the concert, the work of the lecture hall began, during which students of the Department of Biblical Studies and Christian Faith of the Theological Institute spoke about the importance of the Bible, its spiritual and moral content, and the history of its translation and publication on the Belarusian lands. At the end of the lecture near the mobile exposition of the Bible Museum, a conversation was held with the students of the Lida schools. High school students were interested in spiritual and moral issues, as well as interested in the teaching process in theological university.
Closer to the evening, the students of the theology, under the direction of Protopriest Sergei Shaforost, visited the military section of the Lida Border Committee, where they talked with the military. After a lengthy discussion, the military of the Lida Border Committee was able to touch the books of the mobile lecture hall and ask their questions not only to the priest, but also to the theological students.
April 6, 2017, on the final day of the outreach lecture hall, a regular meeting was held with schoolchildren of grades 8-11 of the city of Lida. The lecture was also attended by students of gymnasium No. 1 in Lida. During the conversation, near the traveling exhibition, the theological students told about the importance of the Bible and life on the Word of God. Particular interest among schoolchildren was caused by Bible books translated into Korean and Sanskrit.
The lecture hall was concluded with the solemn speech of Archpriest Sergiy Shaforost and the presentation of memorable souvenirs. During these three days, our senior lecturers were visited by high school students of seventeen schools of the Lida district.
The administration of the Institute of Theology of the Belarusian State University expresses special gratitude for the possibility of placing the lecture hall in the walls of the school to the director of the LOI School # 16 in Lida, Olga Anatolievna Vinichenko. We especially thank the Lida Music College, which has decorated the educational work of the lecture hall with beautiful music. Special gratitude is expressed to Archpriest Sergiy Shaforost and to the head of the project on the spiritual moral education of the youth Velesevich Tatyana Petrovna for the excellent organization of the event.
